Following his scathing attack on the recent protests in Ikageng in Potchefstroom, North West premier, Job Mokgoro, now seeks to pray to stop the recent spate of violence.

Mokgoro and other MECs will today attend the Anglican Church congregation at Ikageng, to also thank the congregants for the peaceful elections which took place on May 8.

He was invited with the hopes that he will use the opportunity to speak against recent acts of violence in the area and also call on JB Marks Local Municipality to speed up service delivery to the community.

OFM News previously reported that Mokgoro, during his state of the province address (Sopa) on Friday, denounced what he called agent provocateurs who exploit genuine service delivery concerns in order to incite violence.

Nine out of ten suspects who were arrested in relation to the protest in that area were granted R300 bail each by the Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Court on Friday after appearing on charges of public violence.

Police spokesperson, Adele Myburgh, previously told OFM News that the tenth suspect, who was apprehended a day prior in connection with the excavation hijack, where tarred roads in the township were severely damaged, will only appear in court on Monday, contrary to what police had indicated earlier.  Mokgoro during Sopa called for law enforcement officials to swiftly deal with the acts of public violence.
