Free State police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, tells OFM News the exact date of the man's first court appearance is yet to be finalised. The man from the informal settlement, Namibia Square, is also facing an attempted murder charge after his two-year-old was also found with stab wounds and is currently receiving treatment for those wounds. Mbambo says the suspect is alleged to have taken custody of the children from their grandmother, threatening to kill them. The siblings were later found by their teenage aunt after their father had violently stabbed them. Police found the 26-year-old man in a shack in the informal settlement, trying to commit suicide. The current status of the two-year-old is yet to be confirmed.

Elsewhere in the Free State, a 23-year-old Bethlehem man is currently in police custody and will appear in the local Magistrate’s Court on July 17, in connection with the murder of a 28-year-old acquaintance. Free State police spokesperson, Puleng Lebakeng, tells OFM News the suspect, Itumeleng Mokoena, is alleged to have stabbed Carel Jansen to death five days prior to his arrest this past Saturday (July 6). Lebakeng says the deceased was murdered in the Bethlehem township of Bohlokong, after going to an acquaintance’s house to collect his money.
