#MokoenaMurder: Search for suspects continues | News Article

The police in the Free State say they are yet to arrest the two men who are also suspects in the murder of Bloemfontein businessman and farmer, Ntau Lucas Mokoena.

This is according to the spokesperson for the police in the province, Peter Kareli, who told OFM News that the two suspects are believed to have killed Mokoena at his home on Monday evening at around 21:35. Kareli says police are at the moment interrogating Mokoena’s wife, who was arrested last night, for leads on the two suspects. Mokoena’s 51-year-old wife was taken into police custody after she was allegedly positively linked to the murder of her husband. Police say the woman will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of conspiracy to murder.

Details of the incident remain sketchy and the police at this stage are yet to ascertain a motive for the murder, however, a report from the authorities at this stage indicates that Mokoena arrived at his house in Fichardt Park, Bloemfontein, on Monday evening, where he found his wife in their main bedroom. As he went to the bathroom, he was confronted by two men, after which a scuffle ensued and the deceased was then dragged back to the bedroom where he was shot in the head in the presence of his wife. The suspects left the scene with the deceased’s vehicle, an undisclosed amount of money and cell phones. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Lourier Park. “Investigations will reveal why they were in the bathroom and what she was doing in the bedroom. Unfortunately, the answer to why they were in the bathroom and what she was doing is part of the investigation and can’t be revealed at this stage,” Kareli told OFM News on Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Mokoena’s neighbours described him as a friendly, though quiet man, who mostly kept to himself but always made an effort to greet when he passed his neighbours in his vehicle. Details on his memorial service as well as funeral are yet to be communicated.
