Members of the Democratic Alliance (DA) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) lambasted the African National Congress-led municipalities for the alleged fraud and corruption.

The DA MPL, Mary Kleynhans, and EFF MPL, Malefane Msimanga, says the department lacks vision and courage to turn around the plight of residents various communities in the province.

They say millions of rands have been lost through the proceeds of fraud and corruption allegedly implicating the top ANC officials which include, councillors and mayors.

During the debate of Cogta budget vote speech, Kleynhans revealed that her party received information that the sheriff of the court attached and seized the bank account of the ailing Mafube municipality which includes Frankfort.  

She says it has become clear that where the department of Cogta is assigned to rescue and intervene in the situation matter seems to get worse.  She adds that this is due to the lack of skills and incompetency with the department.

Meanwhile, EFF's Msimang adds that with the office of the premier, Sisi Ntombela, having received an adverse opinion this shows that things are just starting to get worse.

He says the failure by MEC Mgaxangisa to hold municipal mayors who are facing allegations of fraud and corruption such as one from Moqhaka Municipality, Simon Mqwathi, who is facing fraud, corruption and defeating the end of justice.

Mqwathi is implicated in an alleged dodgy tender fraud deal and was supposed to hand himself to the police last week but decided to be on the run.
