Fraud, corruption not tolerated - SAPS─── 06:00 Wed, 17 Jul 2019
Five police officers were nabbed by the North West Police Anti-corruption Investigation Unit last week for separate cases of corruption.
Two of these police officers that were arrested in Khuma township in North West last week are confirmed to be members of the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Poprcu).
These arrests follow after allegations that they have taken R1500 from a motorist in January this year, according to North West police spokesperson, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone. The two are now out on bail and will again appear before the Stilfontein Magistrate’s Court next week.
The matter of the remaining three police officers has not been reported to the union yet. North West Hawks’ spokesperson, Captain Tlangelani Rikhotso, said members of the Hawks and SAPS are sensitised to refrain from fraud and corruption on a daily basis during parades. He said that they conduct regular awareness campaigns at different government departments, municipalities, and the SAPS about fraud and corruption.
OFM News correspondent, Joba Matsheng, visited the Popcru offices in Klerksdorp to speak to the provincial secretary, Ouma Makokong, who just returned from an overseas trip. She asked OFM News for time to be briefed on the matter as she does not have all the facts at the moment.
