Johnny Clegg

Tributes are pouring in for the legendary musician Johhny Clegg who passed away at the age of 66 yesterday.

The legendary musician is referred to by many as an icon who defied the Apartheid regime and fought for equality and the liberation of black people through his music. A number of social media users are taking to Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to express their heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. He was admired by many for his selfless personality, and his efforts to unify nations through his music.

Filmmaker and celebrity, Anant Singh, is amongst those who have expressed their sadness at Johnny Clegg’s passing. He said Clegg did not only make positive contributions to the music fraternity but also assisted them in getting licences for East Coast Radio and Radio Oranje, now commonly known as OFM, through his knowledge of music and understanding of South African audiences.

He said Clegg contributed immensely to the development of the stations into market leaders.
