A message on social media that had the wrong end of the stick had residents and parents from Koffiefontein unhappy.
OFM News received the message that a Grade 10 learner from Koffiefontein Combined School was attacked and set alight.
After investigations, it was found that not all in the information was, in fact, true.
OFM News spoke to the headmaster of the school, Susan Nieuwoudt, who said the learner in question is a resident in the school's hostel. He woke up in the middle of the night and found his mattress was on fire. The fire was quickly put out.
The learner had blisters on his hands and feet and has not missed a class. Nieuwoudt said the school did call the police to investigate and no foul play was found.
She cautioned the community to verify social media messages before forwarding them and causing unnecessary panic.
