Thaba Nchu men arrested for grandparents’ murder | News Article

Two men, Kabelo Sebotso (18) and Thokozani Gezage (30), face charges of murder and arson after it is alleged that they killed their grandparents at their home in Thaba Nchu earlier this year.

This is according to the Free State police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, who says the two men were arrested after police attended to a reported fire at the home of the 71-year-old Mantwa Sebotso and her 74-year-old husband, Lethakong Sebotso, on 6 May earlier this year. This followed after reports from community members that the house was on fire. Mbambo says upon arrival at the house of the elderly couple, police extinguished the fire and made a gruesome discovery of two bodies in the house.

Following the discovery of the two bodies, preliminary investigations revealed that the couple had issued a protection order against their two grandsons as it is alleged that they were demanding money from the elderly couple. The duo fled the Free State following the murder, however, police say that towards the end of May 2019, they made a breakthrough as they arrested Sebotso, who was found in Gauteng’s Palm Ridge. The first suspect then led the police to the second suspect, Gezage, who was arrested two months later in July, also in Palm Ridge, Gauteng.

The men appeared at the Thaba Nchu Magistrate’s Court earlier this week on charges of double murder and arson. They remain in custody at the moment but will reappear at the court again on 7 August 2019.
