Taxi rank to be completed within a year - Makhura | News Article

Due to the weak local economy and unfinished taxi rank, business owners belonging to the Vereeniging Business Forum are compelled to reduce their number of employees.

This is according to business owners who spoke to OFM News this morning at the Vereeniging Taxi Rank. The rank remains unfinished since 2013 and in May, OFM News spoke to the regional chairperson of the South African National Taxi Association Council (Santaco), Stompie Mali, who stated that they were promised by the Gauteng Premier, David Mahura, that the taxi rank would have been completed in May this year and as a result of the promise not being met, Santaco planned to write a letter of grievance to the Gauteng government.

The business owners, who are also members of the Vereeniging Business Forum, say they are losing profit which is a result of customers not buying from their shops located close to the rank. They are, however, optimistic following a visit to the taxi rank by Gauteng Premier David Makhura yesterday. He stated to reporters that the taxi rank infrastructure will be completed in the next 12 months.

Responding to this, business owners added that 12 months is a lengthy period that will result in investors not investing in their businesses, which will lead to businesses sinking further.
