72-hour plan launched after Rustenburg heist─── LUCKY NKUYANE 12:08 Sun, 21 Jul 2019
The North West police have instituted what they call a “72-hour Activation Plan” that includes a multi-disciplinary team of Hawks investigators and forensics to track down cash-in-transit heist criminals.
The plan was instituted after gunmen made off with an undisclosed amount of money after they robbed a cash van in Rustenburg on Saturday.
Police spokesperson, Vish Naidoo, says it is alleged that the security van, followed by an escort vehicle, was travelling down Bosch Street when they were blocked off by a luxury vehicle at the rear while a white bakkie purposefully collided head-on with the money truck. He says six suspects with automatic firearms blew the van open with explosives and took an undisclosed amount of cash before setting alight the two said vehicles and fled the scene using two other bakkies, one silver and one white.
Naidoo says the suspects allegedly attacked the security vehicle using R5 and AK47 rifles.
