Sanco pulls racism card on AfriForum’s Modise case

Sanco pulls racism card on AfriForum’s Modise case | News Article

The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) in the North West Province will this morning picket at the Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Court during the Speaker of Parliament Thandi Modise’s appearance.

This relates to a charge of desertion of livestock on her farm in 2014, pursued by AfriForum. This is according to the organisation's Paul Sebegoe, who says that the court pursuit by the civil rights group on Modise is part of a racist, political agenda, which seeks to paint Modise as irresponsible to the public even though she has previously expressed remorse and publicly apologised for the incident. OFM News earlier reported that Modise will appear at the court today on charges related to the 2014 incident which saw over 50 animals dead on her farm and more than 162 euthanised owing to alleged negligence.

“We are convinced that parties behind the agenda have deliberately ignored and are less interested in the sadness that Modise had expressed regarding the unfortunate abandonment including the trauma that the livestock had suffered, as well as the huge financial loss she had also experienced because in their view she represents a section of the population that must be relentlessly pursued, vilified and ultimately routed out of the farming sector which they regard as a preserve of white supremacists,” Sebego said.

He further added that AfriForum’s case against Modise was one the organisation believes is “seemingly motivated by racism” and further said that Sanco sympathises with Modise.

“She was unfortunately targeted by her political detractors as she was seen as a stumbling block by those who were behind state capture. She pursued her attempt at business with honesty but was unfortunately victimised by elaborate cartels that shared the mutual benefit of seeking her removal and ultimate destruction,” he concluded.
