Educators are also bullied─── 08:36 Fri, 26 Jul 2019
A two-day workshop underway in the Ngwenya Hotel in Stilfontein near Klerksdorp, North West, heated up yesterday as educators expressed their concerns over safety in their respective schools.
They emphasised that intervention is far while others call for patience and positivity towards the problems in the school environment. Facilitator Zamani Ndlovu explained that educators are also bullied by learners when they feel more superior and urged teachers to not be ashamed to report such incidents. Ndlovu also touched on cyberbullying and encouraged teachers and parents to talk to learners about this type of bullying as it cannot be controlled, and that posting pictures in school uniforms on social media poses an abduction threat.
The Moving Dot social auxiliary worker, Awande Hlongwane, who presented drug testing, said dagga dealers are interested in money and learners suffer due to a lack of information. North West provincial safety coordinator, Boitumelo Lekwape, told OFM News that urine tests will be used to test learners for drug use. She said police will be called and blood tests will be conducted if the learner refuses to cooperate with the school. Delegates will be issued with accredited certification to do drug testing.
