Political heads help Thaba 'Nchu school─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 09:15 Fri, 26 Jul 2019
Learners and parents at the Tawana Primary School in Thaba 'Nchu will today breathe a sigh of relief after political leaders come to lend a helping hand.
The Deputy Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Maggie Sotyu, together with the newly appointed MEC for the Free State Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (Destea), Makalo Mohale, are expected to hand over stationery, school shoes, uniforms, refuse bins, and garden tools, amongst others, on Friday.
Their visit to the school forms part of the ongoing Madiba Month celebrations and the department’s strategy to inspire the youth to be more environmentally friendly. Mohale has also confirmed that this will not only serve as an opportunity to hand over needed learning material to learners but will also seek to inspire them to take more science-related subjects and instil a culture of entrepreneurship. Tabling his department’s R631 million budget for the 2019/20 fiscal year in the Free State Provincial Legislature, Mohale confirmed that they will be investing more in young people and programmes aimed at reducing the high number of youth unemployment in the province.
The two political heads of the departments will, amongst others, engage in a clean-up campaign at the school, help with planting trees, and establishing a vegetable garden which the school can use to supplement their revenue.
