Women football league launched to develop future stars─── 08:08 Thu, 01 Aug 2019
A women’s football league was launched by the Ditsobotla Local Football Association in the North West, in partnership with AfriSam.
The initiative is for girls under the age of 15, with the vision to groom them for Banyana Banyana. Forty teams from the Ditsobatla municipal area will participate in the league this August as part of commemorating Women's Month.
AfriSam’s General Manager, Vishal Aniruth, says they have turned their focus to women’s football as part of their commitment towards grassroots football development. He also stated that this is a way of giving back to the community.
Aniruth explained that the programme is part of the company's Imunathi Programme, which is designed to uplift communities that AfriSam operates from. The Ditsobotla Local Football Association chairperson, Thebe Sekoto, stated that the target is to get 500 girls fully active in soccer by 2020, which is in line with the South African Football Association’s vision.
