Delay in Maokeng Mall project explained | News Article

Senior officials of the Moqhaka Municipality in the Free State held a meeting with developers to seek clarity on why there is a delay in the construction of a planned local mall.

The Executive Mayor of Moqhaka, Lucky Phooko, and the responsible Member of the Mayoral Committee for Local Economic Development, Brenten Rooskrans, met with GMI Property Developers, the main contractors of the Maokeng Mall, yesterday.

Anthony Henstock from GMI Property Developers reported that the delay was a result of the realignment of shareholders and approval of contracts between them and the mall tenants. He also emphasised that it is not true that they pulled out of the project. Henstock made a commitment on behalf of his company that the project will commence mid-September 2019, and they anticipate to officially open the mall in May 2020.

He concluded that he wants to thank the discipline and patience portrayed by the residents of Maokeng and the surrounding areas by showing co-operation and support.
