SANTACO Vaal welcomes road rehabilitation projects─── 16:14 Thu, 15 Aug 2019
Since the beginning of 2019, a total of 10 taxi passengers have died on separate crushes due to potholes on Vaal roads in Gauteng.
This is according to SANTACO in the Vaal's regional Chairperson, Stompie Mali, who spoke to OFM News in Evaton township, where Gauteng roads and transport MEC, Jacob Mamabolo launched road rehabilitation projects.
Officials from today have started resealing and fixing roads, including Moshoeshoe street, which connects different communities with the Vereeniging and the Vanderbijlpark CBD's.
On March 20, taxi operators blockaded all main routes, including those that connect the Vaal with Johannesburg, during a protest action.
The operators were unhappy with roads conditions, which have caused many accidents. Mali says SANTACO is happy that their grievences have finally caught the attention of the Gauteng government.
He hopes accidents will be reduced, and lives will be saved.
