The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema, has launched a scathing attack on President Cyril Ramaphosa over the Marikana tragedy.

Malema told party supporters while visiting the Northern Cape on Friday that Ramaphosa presided over the killing of 34 mineworkers who were shot and killed by the police seven years ago. He says Ramaphosa got a promotion to Presidency after the killing of the miners in Marikana, because "their lives don't matter".The party says the memory of the Marikana massacre must always highlight the plight of all black workers under ANC rule. Malema says the Marikana tragedy must remind them that the ANC-led government always chooses the side of profit and white monopoly industries instead of black workers.

OFM News previously reported that Ramaphosa said the Marikana tragedy stands out as the darkest moment in South Africa's young democracy. Ramaphosa shared his views on his Twitter platform.

Yesterday thousands of miners converged at the koppie where 34 miners were shot and killed by the police to honour the memory of those fallen during the incident on 16 August 2012. On his Twitter account, Ramaphosa said they remember what he called "34 compatriots who lost their lives in Marikana seven years ago this week." He added, "Never again can we allow such a tragedy to befall our nation."
