Central South Africa’s roads had several accidents over the weekend, with some fatal and others leading to serious injuries.

The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergio Kock, confirmed to OFM News that they are also investigating a culpable homicide after a driver and passenger, both males, died on the scene.

In the Free State a family of three, which includes a child, is receiving medical care after suffering multiple injuries in a collision involving their light motor vehicle and a truck 15km before Kroonstad on the N1. Furthermore, ER24 reported that a 21-year-old woman pedestrian is in a critical condition after she was knocked down by a car on the corner of Albert Luthuli Drive and Malherbe Avenue in Potchefstroom in the North West in the early hours of Saturday morning. Another three people were left injured as a motorbike collided with two cyclists on Ravel Road, Vanderbijlpark in Gauteng, on Sunday morning.

Earlier on Sunday, the N1 Northbound was closed 5 km from Winburg due to an accident involving a truck that overturned. Meanwhile, the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) earlier told OFM News that the Accident and Incident Investigations Division (AIID) is investigating the death of two men following a fatal plane crash near Hartbeespoort Dam, west of Akasia in the North West on Saturday. Spokesperson Kabelo Ledwaba said the investigation into the incident will seek to uncover the circumstances and cause(s) that led to the accident involving a Cessna 172 light aircraft.
