NW Health hopes to finalise Lekalakala matter by year-end | News Article

The North West Department of Health says it hopes to have finalised the matter of Dr Thabo Lekalakala’s suspension by December this year.

This is according to the provincial department’s spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane, who earlier today told OFM News that Lekalakala is still going through disciplinary hearings after he was last year placed on special leave for allegedly benefitting from the Gupta-linked company Mediosa. OFM News earlier reported that Lekalakala allegedly paid the company R30 million upfront for a mobile clinic. OFM News’ Pulane Choane reports that Lekgethwane says while the department hopes to have the matter finalised by the end of the year, Lekalakala’s suspension has in the meantime been lifted.

The provincial health department’s spokesperson told OFM News that Lekalakala is still the Head of the Department, however, owing to the fact that the department is among those currently under review after the provincial government was last year placed under administration, the department is actually being run by the administrator. The said administrator is also now the department’s accounting officer, a role which under normal circumstances would be one of Lekalakala’s duties.

Lekgethwane finally states that Lekalakala’s suspension was lifted after he challenged it in court in December last year.
