The Free State Provincial Government says it will respond to the demands made by the EMS personnel within seven working days.

This, after they embarked on a protest and vowed to shut down services should the government fail to heed their call.

Hundreds of members took their frustrations to the streets and gathered in front of premier Sisi Ntombela's office where they handed over their memorandum of demands. They threatened to stage a complete shutdown, should their memorandum of demands gather dust in her office. It includes concerns over poor working conditions, a lack of salary increments, the non-payment of overtime work, unfair dismissals, and a lack of safety whilst attending to patients.

Chief Director in the Premier's Office, Isaac Radebe, says they have noted the march and will soon respond.

OFM News has reported that this protest comes just days after an EMS crew was attacked while attending to a patient in Lusaka in Theunissen.

Amongst their demands is the non-payment of overtime work, which dates back to 2013, which should be addressed.

Issues regarding maladministration, a lack of adequate resources such as basic material and protective clothing should also be attended to.
