Mokgoro makes U-turn, will release NW tribal council report | News Article

The North West premier, Job Mokgoro, makes U-turn on the release of the Bakgatla Ba Kgafela Traditional Council report looking into issues of maladministration and misappropriation, amongst others.

On Sunday 25 August 2019 in a statement, Mokgoro announced that the release of the report would be delayed. A short while ago on Monday 26 August 2019, however, his office announced that the release of this report will go ahead as initially planned.

On Friday, Mokgoro announced that he will release this much-anticipated report on Monday after it was handed to him following its conclusion by the Maluleke Commission of Inquiry into the tribal council state of affairs. Mokgoro’s spokesperson, Vuyisile Ngesi, says due to the ill health of the commissioner of the inquiry the signing off of the report was delayed as he couldn’t sign it because of his ill health.

This was the second postponement by the premier after Julius Mogale from Bapo Ba Mogale clan applied for a court interdict preventing the release of the report in June this year. He adds that the office went through the whole report last night to determine which portion of the report could be released, except Bapo Ba Mogale. He says this after the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria issued an order to the premier to at least release a portion of the report regarding the affairs of Bakgatla and the other clan.

OFM News previously reported that to try and deal with issues plaguing the council, Mokgoro said he would facilitate and speed up the investigations into the allegations of maladministration. Mokgoro said the investigation will pave a way to address fears and concerns of the people who asked him to intervene in the matter. In a statement, the office says: “Kindly be informed that there's has been some changes and the release of the report into the affairs of Bakgatla Ba Kgafela will go ahead TODAY but at 5 pm [at the] Rustenburg Civic Centre," it further says.
