The slogan follows the killings and rape of women in the country.

Students at UFS are set to gather at the university's main building on Thursday 5 September 2019 at 18:00, in solidarity with those who were killed or still being subjected to abuse but are reluctant to come forth. The hashtag was mainly inspired by the death of the University of Cape Town’s Uyinene Mrwetyana (19) and a SA boxing Champion, Leighandre Jegels, who both fell at the hands of men.

Mrwetyana was allegedly killed by a 42-year-old post office worker while Jegels was shot and killed by her police boyfriend who since died in hospital, after sustaining serious injuries in an accident after colliding with another vehicle in the Eastern Cape.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday the University of the Free State (UFS) said it was aware of allegations on social media that an unidentified student at the institution’s Bloemfontein campus was raped on Monday 2 September but nothing was reported.

UFS spokesperson Lacea Loader stated in a press release that no proof of an alleged rape incident in the restrooms of the campus’ Examination Centre (EXR) has been found. She added that no incident was reported to the “university’s Protection Services or the university’s Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) since yesterday”.

The institution said there was an incident at the examination centre where a student fainted while writing a test and had to be attended to by emergency medical personnel.
