NC gears up for Tourism Month and heritage celebrations─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 12:08 Fri, 13 Sep 2019
The Northern Cape gears up to host the 2019 National Heritage Day celebrations set to be addressed by Deputy President, David Mabuza, in Upington.
Premier Zamani Saul has meanwhile urged Northern Cape residents to make use of Heritage Month to embrace diversity and display their rich culture.
Addressing members of the Provincial Legislature and the public, Saul said the time has come for the indigenous languages, such as Nama, !Xun and the Khwe, spoken only in the province, to be recognised and included in school curriculums. He said the month of September, known as Heritage Month, not only affords South Africans to celebrate and embrace their diverse culture but serves as a catalyst for social cohesion and nation-building.
Saul has further urged all spheres of government to profile the Northern Cape as a preferred Tourism destination this month as the Namaqualand flowers are still in full bloom. The Northern Cape Tourism Authority has also hailed the Namaqua flower display during this time of the year as a huge tourism booster for the province.
