The EFF has offered to pay the legal fees of nine suspects who were arrested during protests in Soutpan on Monday.

Community leader, Mpho Sunday, told OFM News, they lodged the request to the EFF provincial leader and the National Secretary, and they approved it. This is after the case against nine suspects was postponed to 30 September for their formal bail application in the Brandfort Magistrate’s Court yesterday. However, the EFF did not respond to OFM News to confirm this.

The Mayor of the Mangaung Metro Municipality, Olly Mlamleli, and her team of MMC’S went to Soutpan on Wednesday to address the crowd. “Mlamleli read the memorandum issued by residents and confirmed that there’s a budget of millions that has been approved to fix the roads and sewerage, amongst other matters they have in her reproach,” Sunday said.

Residents are concerned about the lack of commitment by Mlamleli as to when their issues will be resolved. They say that they are aware of the budget that was approved and their concern is when will the implementation take place, as this will allow some of the residents to have employment when the contractors start working. The community concluded they will give the mayor and her team time to make assessments, planning and come back to them with outlines of action. The protest is suspended until then.
