The North West Police Commissioner, Baile Motswenyane, has sent a stern warning against increasing criminal activities in the province and condemned the killing of police officers.

Motswenyane was addressing multitudes gathered in Potchefstroom on Sunday in a commemoration event of police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty during the 2018/19 financial year. She said the attack and murder of men and women in blue not only undermines the authority of the state, but threatens the safety and stability of several communities.

The event came amidst growing concerns over the stability of Khuma township in Stilfontein where houses of six councillors, a municipal worker and a community members were set alight last week during violent service delivery protests.

Although the situation in Khuma has subsided following Premier Job Mokgoro’s visit, the police have confirmed that they are still keeping a close eye.

Motswenyane has meanwhile reiterated that “it is disturbing that men and woman, who are critical role players in the fight against crime, die at the hands of ruthless criminals. This can never be justified and the SAPS vows to continue to pursue those who are guilty of these heinous crimes against our police members and reservists”.

In remembrance of the fallen heroes, members of the SAPS have pledged to unite and work together in bringing the scourge of crime and murder to an end.
