Upington celebrates heritage day with Ramaphosa─── 06:31 Tue, 24 Sep 2019
President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to make a key note address in Upington in the Northern Cape, as the country celebrates Heritage Day today.
Ramaphosa will officially open the Sandile Present Community Library in Upington at 9:00, and he will finish off with his national address at the Mxolisi Jacobs Stadium at 11:00.
There will be a reading in an indigenous language session by Ramaphosa and learners at the library. The session will be led by Katrina Esau, recipient of the National Order Baobab in Silver for her work in heritage preservation in 2014.
This year’s theme is “Celebrating South Africa’s literacy classics in the year of indigenous languages”. 2019 is the International Year of Indigenous Languages, as The United Nations General Assembly has declared.
