The North West police are searching for the missing 16-year-old schoolgirl, Boitumelo Phoko, of Potchefstroom amidst a series of reports of young girls who went missing countrywide.

Police spokesperson, Sam Tselanyane, says the police have launched a search for Phoko who went missing in Klerksdorp, on her way from Wolmaransstad to Potchefstroom, on 30 September 2019 at around 10:30 in the morning after she was dropped off at a taxi rank.

He says the taxi owner and his driver swapped the two taxis between Wolmaransstad and Klerksdorp. The schoolgirl was in the taxi of the employee when the drivers swapped, she then travelled with the owner to Klerksdorp.

Tselanyane says after the taxi owner dropped all his passengers, he was shocked to find out that Phoko went missing.

Tselanyane says the owner could not explain which taxi might have picked up the girl. He adds that the police have been making strides to follow up on all information received. He has urged anyone with information that could help the case to come forward.

OFM News previously reported that another girl, seven-year-old Kgothatso Molefe, went missing after she was allegedly last seen in a grey uniform along Mokgethi Street in Tlhabane, Rustenburg. She allegedly got into a car with two men after one man called her and gave her a chocolate. Tselanyane said Molefe has been missing since 24 July 2019.
