#MokoenaMurder: Previous cases might seal pastor's fate─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:11 Mon, 14 Oct 2019
Previous cases against pastor Elvis Sonnyboy Galeboe will be in the spotlight in an attempt by the state to prove that he is not a suitable candidate to be released on bail.
His bail application will continue on Monday, 14 October 2019, in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court.
Free State prosecutor, Johan de Vries, tells OFM News that the state's focus in opposing the bail application of Galeboe, who stands accused of organising a murder hit on his co-accused Kelebogile Mokoena's husband Lucas, is to lead evidence that Galeboe was connected to hitmen in at least three murder cases.
The pastor with a distinct colourful background is alleged to have been right in the middle of the 2017 murder of the South African Defence Force (SANDF) Sergeant Preston Titus in Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape, for which four people were arrested and charged.
Galeboe also has an alleged confession on his ties with hitmen in the case of the kidnapping and murder of a Stilfontein woman near Khuma, outside Klerksdorp in the North West in 2016, who was the state witness and killed a day before the trial began. The matter was struck from the roll.
Fast-forward four years later, and Galeboe is again alleged to have executed and organised the murder of a Bloemfontein businessman and farmer, Lucas Mokoena, in his Fichardt Park home in July 2019.
Magistrate Ryan Ishmail is expected to make his eagerly awaited decision on Galeboe and Kelebogile as they both stand accused of orchestrating a hit on Mokoena in his home on July 8.
The two are also accused of being in a romantic relationship, which the state will present as the motive for the murder of Mokoena who was killed in the presence of his wife, Kelebogile.
Galeboe allegedly admitted to having paid hitmen who kidnapped a state witness, who was subsequently murdered and the case was struck from the court roll. Galeboe and Kelebogile were arrested in July and August 2019 respectively for their alleged involvement in the murder of Mokoena.
Galeboe has admitted to owning four vehicles, but none of them is registered in his name. This includes a Ford Ranger he says he bought from his co-accused, Kelebogile. He also confirmed that he owns a BMW, Audi and a Renault Sandero. The court heard that Galeboe has multiple prior arrests in three different towns in Central South Africa.
