Co-accused (20) in triple murder case to learn fate today | News Article

A 20-year-old woman and mother of two, Seipati Ramatisa, the co-accused in the murder case of two DA members and one Lesotho national in Caleb Motshabi in Bloemfontein, will today learn her fate during a formal bail application.

Bloemfontein Magistrate, Ryan Ishmail, is set to announce his verdict today following the conclusion of the accused's cross-examination by the prosecutor Johan de Vries.

Ramatisa is the only woman among a group of four men, including the father of her 10-month-old baby.

The State last week told the court that Ramatisa played a pivotal role in an attempt to help all the accused by destroying evidence linking them to the murder of Molokwane Mkgoro and Godfrey Mbalula, as well as one Lesotho national in Bloemfontein earlier this year.

Ramatisa was arrested in June at a house allegedly used as a hideout in phase 10.

She was allegedly on the run after learning that the police were hot on her trail. The 20-year-old allegedly left her two children with her mother before she was arrested later on.

Ramatisa's mother, Amelia, made quite a damning statement against her own daughter in court, describing her as an "irresponsible" person.

The accused's mother testified for her daughter, hoping she'll be released on bail. State prosecutor Johan de Vries accused Seipati of lying under oath and said she directly participated in efforts to aid the father of her 10-month-old child and the other suspects in the matter by physically destroying evidence linking them to the case.

Ramatisa broke down in court on Wednesday 9 October 2019 during a heated cross-examination.

Magistrate Ishmail subsequently asked for a recess in Ramatisa's testimony as she began to weep under a fierce line of questioning from the state's De Vries.
