Koffiefontein officer in court for threatening his supervisor | News Article

Koffiefontein, a relatively small farming town in the Free State, continues to make headlines.

A local police constable, aged 38, is set to appear in the Local Magistrate's Court on Monday on a charge of Crimen Injuria.

Police spokesperson Motantsi Makhele says this follows after an incident of intimidation and use of a state vehicle without authority on Sunday 13 October 2019.

He says the constable had a misunderstanding with his supervisor, a Warrant Officer, on matters related to work. The accused later threatened to shoot his supervisor. Makhele says the accused is also said to have threatened and insulted a data typist who was working with them.

Meanwhile, Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson, Sontaga Seisa, says the incident falls outside their jurisdiction.

OFM News previously reported that Lungelo Khathane (16) lost his life after he was stabbed by a fellow pupil after a fight broke out outside Reikaeletse Secondary School.

On Sunday residents held a prayer session at Diamant Hoogte Combined School. A community leader and pastor, Simon Khomojong, described the incident as the work of the devil and said as such the residents should pray for both family of Khathane and the accused in the matter - a teenager who has since appeared in court and was remanded in custody at Grootvlei Prison Juvenile Section in Bloemfontein.
