Boitumelong residents in NW vow to shut down schools─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:05 Tue, 22 Oct 2019
Disgruntled residents of the Boitumelong Township near Bloemhof in the North West say they will continue with their rampant protests and disrupt all school activities in the area on Tuesday following Monday’s confrontation with the police.
The residents have vowed to shut the area down and disrupt all business and school-related activities, amongst others.
A resident from that area tells OFM News that all grade 12 pupils will not be allowed to go to school and further adds that no-one will be allowed to report for duty. The residents say this as they demand that the remaining members of the Anti-gang Committee who were arrested for various crimes be released on bail. This include crimes such as kidnapping, assault, and murder. On Monday evening, irate residents pelted two trucks and one light motor vehicle with stones.
Earlier on Monday, some businesses were brought to a standstill after residents embarked on a total shutdown of the area. Police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, told OFM News that these residents blockaded the N12 Highway linking Klerksdorp and Christiana.
Meanwhile, the SABC reports that the provincial Education Department’s plans to move more than 200 Grade 12 learners to a safe area, where they would have written examinations, were disrupted.
