Residents in northern parts of Bloemfontein without water─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 09:10 Sun, 27 Oct 2019
Residents in the northern parts of Bloemfontein remain without water due to cable theft at the Maselspoort Water Treatment Plant.
The Mangaung Metro Municipality on Friday issued a release notifying residents of the damage caused at the plant and how it would affect water supply to areas such as Heuwelsig, Pentagon Park, and Dan Pienaar, among others.
Municipal spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, said the theft had rendered the plant out of operation and that the extent of the damage could run over a million rand.
He added that the copper cables that were stored for emergencies were also stolen by municipal workers whilst on night duty and that the municipality brought a criminal charge against them after they were identified via a CCTV camera.
Khedama has confirmed a case of theft has been opened against the identified suspects. He is yet to respond to OFM News’ questions regarding repairs and when residents can expect water to be restored.
