'Ebola virus neither in FS nor Lesotho’─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 09:54 Thu, 14 Nov 2019
There is no trace of the Ebola virus neither in the Free State nor in the neighbouring country of Lesotho.
This is according to the Free State Department of Health spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, who says authorities were testing the level of preparedness by South Africa and Lesotho border officials in the event that there would be such an outbreak.
Mvambi says reports that a woman, who displayed symptoms associated with Ebola crossed between the border gates of Ficksburg and Maputsoe, were nothing but a result of a simulation exercise that took place on Wednesday. He says “this was the first Small Scale Field Simulation Exercise (SSFX) conducted to test the preparedness and response to the Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC)”.
The International Health Regulations (IHR) in Lesotho has meanwhile confirmed in a statement that the minister of Health will release a statement to address the outcomes of the Simulation Exercise today in Leribe.
