The North West MEC for Community Safety, Sello Lehari, and Provincial Police Commissioner, Baile Motswenyane, will on Friday launch the provincial festive season safety plan.
The launch, set to take place in Marikana, is also expected to be attended by Premier Job Mokgoro. It is at this launch where Lehari will outline how the province plans to reduce the number of fatalities on the roads when people start travelling to various holiday destinations.
Police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, thus far confirms festive season operations will see the South African Police Service work hand-in-hand with other law enforcement agencies to increase visibility at shopping centres and other public areas throughout the province.
Roads and Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula, has reminded South Africans that safety on the roads is a collective responsibility and announced that as the country nears the festive season, intensified 24-hour roadblocks will be rolled out throughout the country.
