Over 200 suspects arrested in NW─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 11:17 Sat, 23 Nov 2019
More than two hundred suspects have been arrested in the North West over a period of two days.
This, after police raids throughout the province earlier this week. Police spokesperson, Adéle Myburgh, says a total of 263 suspects were arrested for different crimes between November 20 and 21.
She says the suspects were arrested for offences including murder, rape, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, robbery, sexual assault, assault common, attempted rape and many others.
Of this group, 46 were arrested for crimes against women and children. Their arrests also come just days before President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to officially launch the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence.
North West Provincial Police Commissioner, Baile Motswenyane, has meanwhile welcomed the arrests and said the police will continue to ensure the safety of community members.
