Series of road accidents reported over long weekend in FS─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:42 Mon, 16 Dec 2019
At least three serious road accidents were reported over the long weekend on the Free State's roads.
On Saturday morning the first crash on the R700 between Hoopstad and Bultfontein claimed three lives and left two with serious injuries.
At least three more accidents followed during that day and on Sunday. ER24 spokesperson, Ross Campbell, says six people were injured in a head-on collision between two light motor vehicles near the Verkeerdevlei Toll Plaza, north of Bloemfontein, around midday yesterday.
He says three people had been ejected from the light motor vehicle and two were found still inside - all had suffered serious to critical injuries and were transported to Pelonomi Hospital by provincial Emergency Medical Services (EMS), ER24 and another private service for further medical care.
“Two people were found in the second vehicle - the driver was fortunately uninjured, however the passenger had suffered serious injuries, and was treated using Advanced Life Support interventions before being taken to Mediclinic Bloemfontein for further care,” he adds.
“The South African Police Services, as well as the Traffic Department, were on scene for further investigations,” Campbell concludes.
