FS DA wants Mkhwebane charged with perjury─── LUCKY NKUYANE 09:11 Mon, 16 Dec 2019
The Leader of the DA in the Free State and Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL) Roy Jankielsohn, says the embattled Public Protector(PP) must be investigated for perjury.
He further echoed calls that parliament must remove her. Jankielsohn says residents in the province, and the beneficiaries of the controversial Estina Vrede Dairy Project, can no longer rely on Mkhwebane to ensure a reliable and credible investigation into corruption and fraud at the project.
He was referring to media reports on Sunday, citing a whistle-blower who alleges that information from the initial report - implicating former Premier Ace Magashule and former MEC Mosebenzi Zwane - was removed on Mkhebane's instructions.
“She has now communicated her intention to appeal the judgement of her denial of her right to appeal, which is unprecedented for someone in such a position”
“This proves the distance she is willing to go and the costs she is willing to undertake not to include politicians in her report” he adds.
Earlier this year Jankielsohn gave testimony at the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into allegations of State Capture, Corruption and Fraud in the Public Sector including Organs of State.
In his testimony he implicated several provincial government officials into possible wrongdoing.
“We can only hope that Parliament will remove her from office and that the new appointee will release a report that contributes to justice for the people of the (FS) and the beneficiaries of this project”
“The simple fact is that, after seven years and R350 million, no project of this nature has a reason to exist without beneficiaries,” he adds.
Jankielsohn says the only short term hope for justice for the people of the (FS) and redress for the 80 beneficiaries now lies with the Zondo Commission and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
