The minister will also visit the Beit bridge border gate where he will assess cross border operations as part of the cross-alive road safety campaign, where traffic volumes are expected to be high. This, as the border post is the busiest commercial entry post amongst all the borders in South Africa that link the country to its neighbouring countries.

Mbalula said last year more than 700 people died on the country’s roads during the holiday period with the most deaths recorded in KwaZulu-Natal, followed by Gauteng, during an address in Midrand on earlier this month.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Home Affairs, Aaron Motsoaledi, is tomorrow expected to visit the Kopfontein Border Post near Zeerust in the North West, to monitor smooth facilitation of travellers’ movement during the festive season.
