Towa says two other people sustained moderate injuries, while another had minor injuries and was treated on the scene.
The injured were transported to Netcare Kroon Hospital in Kroonstad and the Fezi Ngubentombi Hospital in Sasolburg. Visuals of the accident, reveals a silver grey BMW and a charcoal Volkswagen Polo were among the vehicles damaged in the accident.
The incident comes on the back of a warning from the Road Traffic Management Cooporation (RTMC) urging motorists to exercise extra caution when driving in rainy conditions, particularly conditions forecast for the Free State, Northern Cape and Gauteng this past weekend.
Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula has reportedly revealed there has been a 10% reduction in the number of fatalities on South Africa's roads during the festive season thus far compared to 2018.
