NEWS FEATURE: SAHRC concerned about unplaced NW learners | News Article

With three days after schools re-opened, hundreds of learners in the North West are still not placed in schools.

The South African Human Rights Commission in the province says it has received a number of complaints regarding undocumented learners without school admission and they are appealing to parents and guardians of children who are still without schools to approach them. The Commission’s Advocacy and Research officer, Oarabile Gaoraelwe, tells OFM News’ Katleho Morapela the right to education and admission of undocumented learners has become their focal point at this stage. He adds that the lack of safety, overcrowded classrooms, and understaffed schools are amongst some of the challenges they have also noted at a number of schools.
