A 32-year-old woman will appear in the Bloemhof Magistrate’s Court today after she allegedly murdered her female lover on Valentine’s Day outside Christiana in the North West.
The police spokesperson, Amanda Funani, says according to allegations the suspect found the victim with another man. An argument started and the suspect took out a knife, fatally stabbing her. She was rushed to the nearest clinic and was declared dead on arrival.
The community members who witnessed the incident alerted the police and the suspect was arrested on the scene. The North West police commissioner, Sello Kwena, said the police will work hard to oppose her bail and ensure she gets a deserving punishment.
Meanwhile, on the same day in Thembisa, East of Gauteng, a 46-year-old woman was also killed by her 47-year-old lover following an argument.
These incidents take us back to seven years ago, when the famous Paralympic gold medalist, Oscar Pistorius, brutally killed his lover, Reeva Steenkamp. On 6 July 2016, Pistorius was sentenced to 15 years in prison after the Supreme Court of Appeal overturned the culpable homicide verdict’s five years jail term and found him guilty of murder.
