Deadly accident kills two, obstructs N1─── MARVIN NTSANE 09:09 Fri, 21 Feb 2020
Two people have lost their lives during a road accident on the N1 about 14km north of Winburg in the Free State this morning.
The spokesperson of the Department of Police, Roads and Transport, Hillary Mophethe, says the incident occurred when a vehicle tried to overtake a truck. The vehicle allegedly overturned after it lost control when the truck lost its load. Both the truck and vehicle were driving towards Bloemfontein.
Mophethe says Traffic Officers are currently on the scene to control traffic. Motorists driving from Bloemfontein to Johannesburg will be diverted off the N1 at Winburg to join the R30. The lane from Johannesburg to Bloemfontein will be open. A 2-hour delay should be expected as both lanes are obstructed.
