#CoronavirusFS: Fire station closed after officials tested positive | News Article

A fire station in Sasolburg in the Free State has been closed after two officials tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday 5 June 2020.

It is being disinfected and sanitised, the Metsimaholo Local Municipality's spokesperson, Gino Albert, confirmed.

He says the two officials are currently self-isolating. All the employees at the station have been asked to stay at home.

Gina, however, says the fire station is on high alert and will respond to any arising cases of emergencies as per normal.

He says the vehicles will be operating from on site. He adds the Provincial Traffic Department and the police are also assisting in this regard. Meanwhile, the fire station will officially remain closed for a period of one week.

The municipal mayor, Lindiwe Tshongwe, urged the employees and the residents to all take responsibility to contain the spread of Covid-19. She further urged them to be weary of the symptoms which includes fever, coughing, a sore throat, and shortness of breath.

The Free State Department of Health spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, could not be reached for his comment.

OFM News previously reported the Mofumahadi Manapo Mopeli Regional Hospital in Qwaqwa cancelled visiting hours last week. The Department of Health confirmed this and said it is due to a reported Covid-19 case which was reported on Thursday 4 June 2020. Those who were in contact with the individual have been screened and sent for isolation, the department said.

Meanwhile, a clinic in Heilbron temporarily closed its doors due to some people associated with it who tested positive for Covid-19 on 2 June 2020. The department deployed the services of a mobile Health Bus Service stationed outside the clinic, the department said.
