#CoronavirusNW: Court reopens with skeleton staff─── LUCKY NKUYANE 14:04 Mon, 15 Jun 2020
The Klerksdorp Magistrate's Court within the Matlosana Local Municipality, which is among the two coronavirus-stricken municipalities in the North West, will operate with skeleton staff as it reopens on Monday following cases of Covid-19.
This despite the number of infected people that jumped from one to six after five more people tested positive for the virus.
The Justice Department's regional spokesperson, Joseph Makutle, confirms that a decision was taken that the court will reopen on Monday with skeleton staff for the next two weeks. He says this is to allow all officials to undergo Covid-19 tests while those officials who are still waiting for their test results, may stay at home and self-isolate. Makutle further says the court will now deal mainly with postponements, and only urgent and critical matters will be considered.
"The stakeholders at the court, consisting of the judiciary, prosecution, South African Police Services (SAPS) and court management, had an emergency meeting this morning. The minimum number of staff members will be available to help members of the public," he adds.
Makutle previously told OFM News that a senior Magistrate and Court Manager were available in case of an urgent matter that would seek the attention of the court.
So far the province has 940 active cases, after 152 patients recovered from the virus, with 5 deaths recorded from 1097 reported cases.
