Two shot dead in FS #FarmAttack─── LUCKY NKUYANE 05:51 Mon, 22 Jun 2020
Two suspected armed robbers were shot dead following a shoot-out between a group of men and a farmer in the Free State.
Police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, says a group of men, allegedly armed with guns and knives, attacked a farm in Yaxham in Tweespruit on Sunday morning.
She adds that the suspects threatened four people residing on the farm, including two teenagers and their grandmother, with guns and knives and ordered them to lie on the floor.
A shooting then ensued between the homeowner, a 70-year-old farmer and the suspects - in which two suspects were shot dead while another was wounded and later admitted to hospital.
Mbambo says a third suspect was later arrested in the area by the help of other farmers.
She further says the police in Komiespoort is probing cases of house robbery and murder following the attack.
She adds that a cell phone, allegedly stolen during the robbery, was found in the possession of the suspect who was arrested around the vicinity of the crime scene.
Mbambo further adds that it is not yet known how many suspects were involved in the attempted robbery.
"A male visiting at the farm alleges that he was outside when he saw a group of males approaching. One of them pointed him with a firearm and forced him back into the house where two children (a boy and a girl estimated to be in their teens) and their grandmother had already been ordered at knife point to lie down," Mbambo continues.
