FS border police office shut down after #CoronavirusFS case | News Article

Free State police confirm that an official stationed at the Ficksburg administrative office situated at the Lesotho border gate has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Provincial police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, tells OFM News management in the province received word of the police official’s results on Sunday. She further announces that the administrative office has been closed for decontamination and deep cleaning as a result.

All police administration related activities in the area will now take place from a building identified as the “Qattar House” in the Ficksburg central business district (CBD). The police management has apologised profusely for the inconvenience.

The administrative office is not to be confused with the police station which remains open in the Free State town.

Mbambo says residents can contact the Ficksburg police station commander, Colonel Phasha at 082-5649-684 for more information. The office is technically the sixth police building to be closed down after an official tested positive for COVID-19.  The Mangaung, Bethulie, Batho, Bethlehem and Zamdela Police Stations have been closed and reopened following confirmed cases in the last two months.

The Batho Police Station in Bloemfontein, however, is said to have been forced to close based off of incorrect COVID-19 results. The clerk at the centre of the matter told News24 that her results were mixed up with those of a Dewetsdorp resident. Free State police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, refrained from commenting on the report.
