He will announce new Members of the Executive Council (MECs) during a media briefing set to take place at 13:30. The reshuffle comes after Social Development MEC Martha Bartlett and MEC for the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, Bernice Sinxeve, have been deployed to Parliament to serve at the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), following the resignation of the former Cosatu provincial secretary Anele Gxoyiya as a member of parliament.

It is reported that the Deputy Speaker of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature and former Sol Plaatje executive mayor, Mangaliso Matika, may be appointed as the MEC of Sport, Arts and Culture. Whilst the ANC’s tripartite alliance partner in the province, the SACP, have raised concern at the deployment of the two MECs to Parliament, they have announced that they are hopeful Saul will appoint capable individuals who will place the interest of the province and its people at the forefront once they are in the Executive Council.
