North West Cooperative Governance MEC, Gordon Kegakwile, has passed away due to coronavirus-related complications.
The office of Premier Job Mokgoro confirmed that Kegakilwe passed on after he suffered a cardiac arrest after being admitted in hospital with Covid-19.
Spokesperson in the office of the premier, Vuyisile Ngesi, says he was admitted with Covid-19 aggravated pneumonia on Sunday at the Vryburg Private Hospital.
He was then later on Monday transported to a medical facility in Klerksdorp where he reportedly passed away after several attempts to resuscitate him failed.
Meanwhile, Premier Mokgoro has sent his condolences to the family and friends of MEC Kegakilwe.
It is said that immediately after arriving at a private hospital in Vryburg he was put on oxygen but a decision was taken to transfer him to a medical facility in Klerksdorp.
"He was transported from Vryburg to Klerksdorp in an ambulance and upon arrival in Klerksdorp, he suffered a cardiac arrest - despite all efforts by medical personnel, he succumbed and lost his life," Ngesi further says.
Ngesi adds that Premier Mokgoro has hailed MEC Kegakilwe as one of the finest to have come from the ranks of the governing African National Congress (ANC) and a tried and tested leader”.
Meanwhile, OFM News has reliably learned that another MEC and his advisor have both tested positive for Covid-19.
