#Covid19: AG investigates relief funds─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 12:02 Mon, 27 Jul 2020
The Auditor-General (AG) confirms it is looking into various Covid-19 related initiatives and keeping a close eye on the R500 billion Covid-19 relief fund.
This, amidst mounting questions regarding corruption allegations over the relief funds and calls for the Presidency's spokesperson, Khusela Diko, to be suspended following a multimillion-rand Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) tender awarded to her husband.
In his latest address, President Cyril Ramaphosa said the government would work closely with the AG to ensure the money is spent responsibly. The AG says investigations into Covid-19 funds are ongoing and will soon report findings once it has completed its work.
Meanwhile, social media users are taking to Twitter and Facebook to express their dissatisfaction with how the government has been handling Covid-19 corruption allegations.
Finance Minister Tito Mboweni on Sunday in a series of Tweets expressed concern over looted Covid-19 relief funds, asking what kind of people would steal during a pandemic and sent a warning to those doing so.
His Tweets are, however, received with mixed emotions with many stating that he is in a position of power, response for finances in the country and should hold those implicated accountable.
