According to police spokesperson, Nomthandazo Mnisi, police had figured out the firearm was missing from the Kleinsee police storeroom on 7 August and realised that the culprit had not used force to gain entry.

The discovery of an assortment of ammunition and magazines wrapped in an envelope outside the station led to the summoning of the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team to do an internal investigation.

Following positive leads, the Hawks team proceeded to a house in Okiep and found a firearm in a bedroom belonging to the constable.

The suspect was released on warning at the Springbok Magistrate’s Court on Friday and is expected to re-appear in court on 14 September 2020.
